Esther's Faith: God's Secret Weapon
7. Coming to Terms
Esther 4:
16 "Go and gather together all the Jews of Shushan and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day; and I and my maids will do the same; and then, though it is strictly forbidden, I will go in to see the king; and if I perish, I perish."
17 So Mordecai did as Esther told him to.
(The Living Bible)
God had put a challenge before Esther, through the words of her adopted father, Mordicai. But Esther realised that without the help of God, she could simply die in the attepmt to carry out this challenge.
So she very wisely enlists the help of Mordicai and the other Jews to fast and pray concerning the terrible situation they found themselves in.
So what exactly did this achieve? someone may ask.
There are several answers to this excellent question:
First of all, the three days of prayer and fasting laid these First Faith Foundations in Esther's life:
Caused God to become the focus of her life
Allowed her to surrender her heart and life to God's plan and purpose for her life
Clarified in her heart, her own stand for righteousness
Prepared her to grow into her future as Queen, and trusted advisor to the king.
Prayer:
Father, as I fast and pray, I ask that You lay the same foundations in me as you did in the life of Your servant Esther,
in Jesus' name, Amen.
